Borage, or Starflower, is an herb used for a variety of different uses. Here, the oil from the seed is used as the main component in helping the skin keeps it’s moisture barrier, which in turn helps with wound healing. Also, borage has GLA (gamma- linolenic acid) which is a type of omega-6 fatty acid that the body uses to help reduce inflammation in the joints, promote cellular growth, and help with dermatitis.

Olive oil and beeswax in the salve keep your skin hydrated, even if you are working outdoors or conjuring magick at your altar. I made this salve because I wanted something that would help with my mountain-chapped hands, my bitten cuticles, and the sudden flare-up of my eczema.

The ingredients in this salve are:

• calendula-infused olive oil (calendula is another that is extremely helpful for skin irritants and issues).
• Borage seed oil. Beeswax.
• Essential oils.

The herbalist Gerard said about Borage. “The leaves and flowers of Borage put into wine make men and women glad and merry, and drive away all sadness, dulness, and melancholy, as Dioscorides and Pliny affirm.” While he didn’t say anything about sad skin, new studies are showing the benefits of Borage.
